Staten Island Housing Market Taps Its Brakes Amid National Climb in Home Prices, Mortgage Rates
July 11, 2022STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – If you are an employer without a clear understanding of worker-classification regulations, it could be costly. Seeking to help small-business owners avoid noncompliance, and alert accountants and tax preparers of this issue, SCORE-Staten Island will shed light on such regulations during its next webinar, “Independent Contractor or Employee: Do You Know the Difference?”
Sponsored by Richmond County Savings Bank (a division of New York Community Bank, member FDIC), the free workshop will take place via Zoom Thursday, June 9, 1 to 2 p.m.
“The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the IRS are stepping up enforcement of worker-classification regulations, and in today’s part-time economy, it may be harder than ever to avoid penalties,” warns Karen Hall, a human resources consultant at PAYCHEX, who will conduct the workshop.
Hall, a Society for Human Resource Management-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) with over 25 years of relevant experience, will highlight a variety of related topics during the workshop, such as: The current DOL definitions of independent contractors and employees; employer (business owner) responsibilities as they apply to the diverse types of workers; methods of determining worker classification; misclassification concerns and consequences, and common misclassification mistakes. Questions from webinar attendees will also be addressed.
