STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The South Shore Rotary Club’s presidential gavel officially changed hands yesterday. The gathering, held in the Marina Grand, Great Kills, marked the group’s first meeting under a newly seated administration.
After congratulating Immediate Past President Dean Balsamini and other club members for accomplishing a variety of successful community fund-raisers despite a difficult economic climate, new South Shore Rotary President John Caltabiano discussed some of the organization’s fund-raising ambitions for the coming year.
Caltabiano said the club’s goals for 2011 include: Participation and leadership in the Rotary International Parent/Child Aids Program, spearheaded by the renowned Dr. Stephen Nicholas; continuation of support to U.S. troops overseas and at home; involvement in Siller Foundation fund-raising efforts; sponsorship of the annual South Shore Rotary musical show, facilitated by Al Lambert; the staging of a “lobster fest” fund-raiser; continued sponsorship of the annual Hungerford School Holiday Party and Prom, and other community-minded initiatives
