Island’s Largest Indoor Children’s Playground Rebuilds In Aftermath Of Hurricane Sandy Damage
Owners of Chelsea Playground, Travis, plan to reopen within weeks
STATEN ISLAND,, N.Y. — Chelsea Playground, a Staten Island indoor children’s playground popular with families, schools and day camps, is renovating in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
“We were completely flooded and forced to temporarily close down,” said Allison Jasko, who owns and operates the family business with her husband, Matthew, and mother, Kristine Rodberg. “We’re now working to restore our location, and plan to reopen in a few weeks as the sparkling clean and fun-filled destination we’ve built our reputation upon.”
Launched in 2006, the 10,000 square-foot state-of-the-art play space, at 400 Chelsea Rd. in Travis, is known for its creative array of attractions that keep kids busy and happy. It is the largest facility of its type on the Island.
Features at Chelsea Playground inspire imaginative play with hands-on attractions such as: Three levels of tubes, tunnels and slides; a rock-climbing wall, and a pint-sized village, where tykes can go shopping, put on show or become a fireman or a teacher. The site additionally includes a full-service concession area and party rooms.
In addition to its popularity as a children’s birthday party venue, Chelsea Playground hosted daily playtime and class/camp trips prior to the storm, and was open seven days a week.
“Our all-encompassing schedule, activities and special events will resume following the completion of our renovations,” Mrs. Jasko said. “We’re looking forward to re-opening our doors and hearing the unrestrained laughter of children enjoying themselves at Chelsea Playground.”
