STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (May 3, 2017) – The Staten Island Board of Realtors® (SIBOR) will be holding its annual Realtors’ Challenge Cup fund-raiser June 20 to assist two local initiatives that focus on children with cancer. Dollars raised though the golf event will benefit Sunrise Day Camp – Staten Island, and a new Kids Against Cancer unit at Staten Island University Hospital Northwell Health, Ocean Breeze.
The event, sponsored by Freedom Mortgage®,will take place at the Grand Oaks Country Club, 200 Huguenot Ave., Huguenot.
“Our children are our most precious treasures, and SIBOR remains determined to help them in times of crisis,” said Ron Molcho, a SIBOR director, who is chairing the annual event for the third consecutive year. Since 2015, the Realtors’ Challenge Cup has raised $21,500 for the hospital’s Kids Against Cancer unit. This is the first time the golf outing is focusing its fund-raising efforts on two programs.
There are a variety of ways to be a part of this event – even if you are not a golfer, said Greg A. Sokol, president of SIBOR.
“Let’s help our kids,” Sokol said. “We are actively seeking sponsors, and are encouraging everyone to attend the Realtors® Challenge Cup reception.”

About Sunrise Day Camp
Sunrise Day Camp-Staten Island is a proud member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings worldwide through the creation of Sunrise Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge. The life of a child with cancer revolves around doctors, hospitals and treatment; siblings cannot bring home friends because of the fear of infection. The JCC of Staten Island is partnering with Catholic Charities of Staten Island and is utilizing the facilities at Mt. Loretto. This beautiful setting serves as Sunrise Day Camp’s home base throughout the summer.
About Kids Against Cancer
Staten Island University Hospital Northwell Health together with Kids Against Cancer (KAC) will soon be able to expand services for the pediatric oncology patients of Staten Island. KAC has announced a $1 million pledge to the creation of the new state-of-the-art outpatient infusion suite and treatment center for children with cancer and blood related disorders. The new Center is envisioned as a place where children can be treated close to home but yet far removed from their disease. Some features will include a one-wall fish tank, running waterfall with teen’s corner, interactive video games and IT wall with touch-on screens, as well as an exposition of fluttering butterflies.
