STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Jan. 15, 2025) – An upcoming SCORE-Staten Island webinar will discuss the latest changes to the federal “Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) 2.0 Act of 2022,” highlighting the provisions impacting individuals and small businesses in the upcoming tax season.
The workshop also will cover some aspects of corporations and other business entities, including: Sole proprietor’s choice of a “Method of Accounting;” What is a permissible “Method of Accounting” and the difference of an “Election;” Dealing with a voluntary Change in Accounting Method by the Taxpayer of a Permissible Method, or an IRS-initiated Change Request due to use of an impermissible method by the Taxpayer, which is an involuntary method change.
The workshop will take place Tuesday, Jan. 21, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., via Zoom.
Sponsored by Flagstar Bank, the class is presented in collaboration with Doreen M. Inserra, certified public accountant (CPA);certified government financial manager; past president, Staten Island Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and long-time member of both the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) and the Independent Association of Accountants of Staten Island (IAA).
The class, directed by Inserra, is structured to address an audience of CPAs; Public Accountants (PAs); Enrolled Agents (EAs), and other tax practitioners, in addition to taxpayers and small business owners.
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS
Three-hour CE or CPE credits in taxation are available at a nonrefundable fee of $35 for qualifying attendees. Tax practitioners must provide their Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN), and certified public accountants must provide their CPA License Number on their course evaluation form. A certificate will only be issued to attendees after they have submitted an evaluation and sign-off at the end of the program.
Attendees who are not seeking educational credits may attend the workshop free of charge by using the word “FREE” as their discount code when registering.
