STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — On Your Mark (OYM), one of Staten Island’s most effective charitable organizations, is paving the way to the future – almost literally.
Coupling a facility-improvement project with a fund-raising initiative, the organization is offering an opportunity for community involvement through the sale of personalized brick pavers.
The bricks, individually inscribed with a donor’s name or message, will be positioned within OYM’s “Pathway to a Brighter Future,” the walkway leading to the entrance of the organization’s Inclusive Community Center at 475 Victory Blvd., Tompkinsville.
Funds raised through the sale of the bricks will be used for OYM’s capital campaign for restoration of the facility.
Since 1979, On You Mark has responded to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in Staten Island and Brooklyn.
The West Brighton-based organization provides services to children and adults facing the challenges of intellectual disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury or neurological impairments.
WIDE VARIETY OF PROGRAMS
OYM’s Inclusive Community Center is an innovative facility designed to offer a wide array of programs that promote fitness, independence, productivity and creativity.
“The inscribed pavers provide a great opportunity to honor, celebrate, remember or thank anyone special to you,” said John Bilotti, executive director of On Your Mark. “As mentioned on our Web site (http://www.onyourmark.org/community/icc/), this is a family and community effort. We want to include as many employees, families, extended family members and local-community businesses and organizations as we can.”
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
The price of a single 4-by-8-inch brick, including inscription, is $225. The fund-raising effort also provides an opportunity to purchase multi-brick packages, providing a larger area for the inscription of graphics or logos. Phase I is limited to the donations of the first 500 bricks.
