STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Jan. 6, 2026) — As Staten Island practitioners, taxpayers and business owners prepare for sweeping federal tax changes, SCORE-Staten Island will host a two-hour webinar offering a detailed breakdown of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).

The online workshop – “The 2025 Act a/k/a The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA): What It Really Means for Individuals & Small Business Owners” – will take place Tuesday, Jan. 20, 6 to 8 p.m., via Zoom.
The program will be presented by seasoned Staten Island–based accounting expert Doreen M. Inserra, a certified public accountant (CPA); certified government financial manager; past president, Staten Island Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants; and long-time member of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA), as well as other tax associations.
The virtual event is designed to help taxpayers and practitioners better understand how recent federal tax legislation under the 2025 Act may affect personal income tax by focusing on:
- New additional tax deductions and enhanced personal tax credits
- Trump Accounts for Newborns
- Estate Tax permanency
- Continuity in tax planning for small businesses, where the Act makes permanent the Qualified Business Income Deduction, Qualified Opportunity Zones, Section 179 expensing, and 100% bonus depreciation
- Key topics include:
- Extension of the Favorable Income and Capital Gain Tax Rates
- Increased Deductions (Seniors; No Tax on Tips; No Tax on Overtime Provisions; Increased State and Local Income Tax (SALT) Cap; and Qualified Passenger Vehicle Loan Interest Deduction)
- First-Year Expensing of Equipment (Section 179) and Bonus Depreciation Considerations (including Qualified Production Property)
- Research and Development Expenditures and the small-retroactive election back to Tax Year 2022
- 100% Bonus Depreciation Treatment of Certain Sound Recording Productions which includes albums, soundtracks and podcasts intended for commercial release (and for Influencers, too)
- 100% Exclusion of Qualified Business Stock held for five years issued or acquired in tax years beginning after the date of enactment of the OBBBA, July 4, 2025
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS
Continuing education credits are available for qualified attendees, including two hours of IRS CE, NYS CPA CPE, and CFP® CE, subject to applicable fees and credential requirements. A non-refundable fee of $30 applies for IRS CE and NYS CPA CPE credits, with an additional $15 fee for CFP® credits.
