It used to be a rite of passage for children. When they hit their first birthday, their parents could turn their car seats around, from the rear-facing to the forward-facing position.
But a new recommendation urges parents to wait another year, until their children are 2 years old or reach the suggested height and weight posted on the seat, before turning the car seats.
Local pediatricians and child safety advocates already are spreading the word.
